Sonar Pro is Perplexity's closed, web-grounded search model/API, made generally available to all developers on January 21, 2025, for complex queries and follow-ups. Standard Sonar Pro is non-reasoning and performs real-time web retrieval with source-grounded answers; Perplexity advertises a 200K context length and twice as many search results as standard Sonar, while the optional Pro Search request mode adds multi-step reasoning and tool use.
