DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017 is the October 17, 2026 open-weight update to DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, released as a separate Hugging Face checkpoint with improved reasoning, coding, agentic and visual results and shorter outputs. It keeps the September release's published model configuration (a 40-layer text decoder in a causal encoder-decoder with compressed sparse attention, plus vision components), accepts text and images, generates text, and supports thinking and non-thinking modes with low, high and max API effort over its numeric reasoning-effort encoding. Since its release the API name deepseek-flash, and the retired legacy names deepseek-v4-flash and deepseek-v4-flash-vision-exp, are served by this checkpoint.
